Alberto Cerriteno

#86 2D Artist

Illustrator Alberto Cerriteno.

Alberto Cerriteño is a Mexican illustrator who has lived in America; Portland for nearly three years now. Strongly inspired by urban vinyl toys, alternative cartoons, and the pop surrealism movement, Alberto Cerriteño has developed his own very personal technique and style, having always present a delicate hints of traditional Mexican artistic influences in his management of rich textures and decorative patterns. These contrast strikingly with the blending of desaturated colors and ink, sometimes featuring a vintage coffee finish. Alberto Cerriteño illustrations have been recognized by progressive art institutions such as Juxtapoz, Create, Drawn!, The Little Chimp Society, Computer Arts, Communication Arts and IDN among others. He has also been invited to participate in collaborative art projects all around the world and diverse solo and groupal gallery shows in United States.

another one that greatly influences my work.

#85 2D Artist

Justin Degarmo

one bad ass mofo. Seriously, talented in everything-painting, drawing, cartoons, and realism. I need to buy his work. I just can't get over it. He is another one of my favorites and who I take inspiration from. oh man... I don't even know what else to say. I don't want my words mucking up his work.

#84 I wish

I wish BSU Art Department would recognize and discuss the significance of street art and low brow art on the fine art world and that illustration and its offsets are all important. That just because something is not in a high class gallery or at the MoMA then it has no meaning or significance. Some of the professors wouldn't blink a damn eye at anything I posted on my blog so far. Even in all of its glory and wonderfulness. They are just sheep. They feel like they are in the know and they are better than those not in art. But they aren't.

#83 mmhmmm

I don't even know what else to say. This blog has sucked me dry of any ideas and thought. I still have a plethora of artists I could have talked about.

I think I want to start working large again. But I haven't decided. It just seems like a good idea with the kind of subject matter I work with. Seeing happy-gazed over people and animals in a small context just doesn't feel like it will have the same impact as something that is 7 feet tall and in your face. Then you can feel the sublime my world has. Shit is going down but everyone has their happy mask on. I dunno if this is realistic to the world around us. But I feel like it is sometimes. I know people like this. I think this is all me.

#82 and so on

I am missing my french lit class right now. That may be killing my grade as we speak because today is the last day we talk about a novel that I haven't even read yet and we didn't even talk about last time. I am so confused in that class. I am scared shit-less for the final and have no idea what I am doing there. At least I don't need the class to graduate. It is just a stupid elective credit. bah!

#81 scholarship

I want an art scholarship from BSU. I want it really bad. I am hoping and praying I get it this year. I know more professors and know them a lot better. I have been trying to get my work out there and I have been trying my best and I have been trying to progress.

I need to start making a list this year of what I am going to put on my 6 slides. I have no idea! I didn't take any drawing this semester. So I guess I will turn in my illustrations. Maybe a poster. I just don't know!

I know I will turn in my Hair piece and maybe my new illustration for school or maybe the deer painting. But I don't know what the school wants from me. I don't know if I documented any of my large drawings from art 311 last year and I think they are gone now. *sigh*. And I never picked up my portfolio from figure painting.

I need to talk to Bill.

#80 blah blah blah progression

oh, what to do these days. Ii don't know what I want to focus on- more fine art or my poster work. And, if I stick with my poster work, do I want to make designs that could be silk screened, or pieces that are printed from the computer only?

Sometimes I just have all of these ideas on my head and I can usually get them out and make them look decent on paper. But I still have so much to learn that I know I can do better. Fuck, I have progressed so much in college it is mind boggling comparing my first works to my latest. I can't believe it. And I know it is because of how dedicated I am and how hard I work and how observant I am. But I know next semester in school is going to serve me greatly. I am taking figure painting which is going to improve my painting skills greatly and help me get back into the figure.

this is embarrassing... but here is my first (actually this is my second) flyer I ever created for a show. I created this in early 2007. It is now nearly 2009 and look where I have come.

Here are things I have made in the past few months. I can't wait to see where I am a year from now. Then these posters below can be on my shit list.

#79 2D Artist

Sam Weber

another very talented illustrator and fine artist. I gasp every time I see his work. His handling of ink is just enough to make one so jealous. He is excellent at making his work pop with a mixture of muted colors and greys, then adding a color to maintain the emphasis. I can only hope that one day I can become this good. His work also reminds me of James Jean a bit.

#78 2D Artist

Kozy and Dan

kozyndan are Los Angeles based mad scientists. they are working on a secret formula for controlled nuclear fusion, and are creating a line of edible chickens. For fun they like to take long deep breaths and dip their heads into bowls of rasberry jelly and lemon curd. They live indoors and don't paint on walls. the couple also moonlights as freelance illustrators.

cute cute cute cute cute cute!!!! It may be cute, but it is DAMN well executed too. The panoramic views just blow my damn mind away.

#77 2D Artist

ALEKS SENNWALD

Beautiful illustrator that I find inspiration from. I love the way she handles the her watercolor and pen. I also get a good laugh at the faces she draws and adore the nature scenes and animal drawings. I love the muted colors and the atmospheres each piece creates for itself. I want to be there inside her world.

#76 2D Artist

Mr. Gauky.

A favorite poster artist of mine right now. His figures are disgusting and disturbing, which is a perfect reflection of the world going on around us. People are disgusting and also awesome at the same time. His line work just makes my skin crawl. I can feel those bumps and wrinkles like it is no big deal.

#75 2D Artist

Rutger de vries

21 year old graphic design and street artist plays with typography and color and new ways to create type. He was inspired by Katharina Grosee when he created his colorful landscape- a juxtaposition of color and grungy city.

I also enjoyed the items he carries wit him everyday made out of meat product. Interesting indeed.
